What are the medications that your affiliated providers prescribe?
The medications available on our platform include a class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists and alternative medications that are effective for weight loss.

GLP-1’s are powerful, naturally-occurring hormones made by your gut that send signals to your brain to decrease your appetite, improve your metabolic system, and regulate your digestion so you can feel full longer and maximize nutrient absorption.  The GLP-1 agonist medications offered include Zepbound®, Wegovy®, and Saxenda®.

We also offer alternative effective weight loss medications including Contrave®. Contrave® is a combination of two medications: bupropion and naltrexone. It was approved in 2014 as a treatment to aid with weight loss by the FDA for use by adults who are obese and by overweight adults who have at least one other weight-related condition or illness, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

All of the medications we offer are clinically backed and can be effective tools. Your healthcare professional will prescribe what is right for you.
What if my insurance does not cover medication?
Our in-house team of insurance experts will work with your insurance to try to achieve coverage for your medication. If for some reason your insurance will not cover the cost of your medication, you’ll have the option to either pay for the medication out of pocket (typically $30–$1,600/month, depending on the medication) or cancel your Pine Medical membership. Given the cost of ongoing provider support and insurance assistance, we are unable to offer refunds for previously incurred monthly membership fees.
Can I use insurance?
Pine Medical currently accepts primary commercial insurance (no Medicare or Medicaid) for telehealth visits from members living in California or Wisconsin who have a covered insurance plans. For more information on which plans are covered, you can reach out to us at support@pinemedical.com.

We are actively working on expanding insurance coverage access across more payers and states. Copays vary by plan. See “What does insurance cover?” for more information on medication insurance coverage.

If you do not live in California or Wisconsin, please go to to findsunrise.com a non-insurance, cash pay alternative.
What does insurance cover?
Depending on your insurance, your plan may cover your telehealth appointments and your medication cost, with applicable copays.

We navigate insurance on your behalf and are able to work with the vast majority of commercial/employer insurance plans in order to get cost-effective access for your GLP-1 medication, coverage for your appointments, and coverage for your labs. Appointment, lab, and medication copays vary by plan.

For many members with commercial insurance GLP-1s are typically around $25 per month after any deductible is met but, at times, and depending on plan, can be higher. Federal payors do not cover GLP-1 treatment at this time. The cost of the Pine Medical membership is not covered by insurance, however it is HSA/FSA eligible.
Who is eligible to join Pine Medical?
Currently, Pine Medical is available to individuals for whom the following apply. We are actively working on expanding access to Pine Medical.

• Live in California or Wisconsin
• Have in-network insurance
• Are between 18 - 64 years of age
• Have a BMI that is >30, or >27 with one or more of the following metabolic conditions: diabetes, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea or PCOS.
• Who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
• Who do not have an active substance abuse problem, an active eating disorder (e.g., anorexia or bulimia), cancer, recent bariatric surgery (within the past 18 months), active gallbladder disease, are on insulin, have an A1C> 8.0%, a history of pancreatitis in the past six months, or a history of medullary thyroid cancer (MEN syndrome).

The above list is not exhaustive and subject to review by our affiliated medical providers who determine individual eligibility.
What are the side effects of the medication?
The medications that are a part of our platform are called GLP-1 agonists, and are clinically-tested, stimulant-free, and non-habit forming. Side effects are extremely rare, and most individuals who take a GLP-1 do not experience any. For those who do, nausea is the most common, and this typically resolves over the first few weeks of being on the medication.

If you do experience any side effects, you’ll be able to reach out to your Medical Team directly for support. In the most recent clinical trials, less than 5% of people discontinued GLP-1 medications because of side effects.
What is included with the Membership Fee?
The Membership Fee covers costs associated with personal services and tools that enhance your healthcare experience, but are not covered by insurance. Membership services include higher-touch personal services such as digital tools for easy access to platform services, as well as lifestyle and wellness offerings.

You may get limited access to Pine Medical medical services without the membership services.  Please reach out to us at support@pinemedical.com
Cancellation and refund policy
